The whole megillah, the biblical story of Queen Esther, adapted by Ira R. Forman with music by Sir Arthur Sullivan and lyrics by Ira R. Forman, inspired by W. S. Gilbert. The “workshop” format will include time for audience feedback.

The Grand Duke in Concert

March 2025

The Austin premier of Gilbert & Sullivan’s 14th and last collaboration, in concert format. The plot hinges on the misinterpretation of an old law regarding statutory duels (decided by drawing cards). The baffled leading man of a troupe of actors, Ludwig, spearheads the rebellion against the hypochondriac, miserly Grand Duke and becomes engaged to four different women before the plot is resolved. The frugality and phoniness of the wealthy classes and the nobility are lampooned.
