Gilbert & Sullivan Austin (GSA) announces open auditions for H.M.S. Pinafore.
Auditions by appointment only, will take place in south Austin at Abiding Love Lutheran Church, 7210 Brush Country Road. Candidates will be assigned five-minute slots on Saturday, February 8, between 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM. Callbacks may be scheduled on Sunday, February 9, beginning at 2:30 PM.
Dr. Jeffrey Jones-Ragona returns as music director and Jenny Lavery will direct. Ms. Lavery, active in Austin area theatre since 2010, has an MFA in directing from UT Austin, staged 19 productions with her own company Theatre en Bloc, and has directed musical theatre and drama for Zach Theatre, San Antonio’s San Pedro Playhouse, UT Austin, the Hill Country Community Theatre near Marble Falls, the Mary Moody Northen Theatre of St. Edward’s University, and Magik Theatre of San Antonio. She was awarded Austin’s 2023/2024 B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Direction of Musical Theatre for Ride the Cyclone at UT.
All roles remain to be filled. All performers will be compensated for the show.
Music rehearsals will begin with a table read on March 4, 2025 followed by rehearsals in March, April and May. Staging rehearsals start immediately afterwards. H.M.S. Pinafore will be performed seven times between June 13 and June 22, 2025.

All principal and chorus roles open for casting. All performers will be compensated. Auditions are approximately five minutes long and are by appointment only.
Candidates should bring with them a completed audition form, as well as a resume and headshot. The auditions page will have a complete description of the opera and characters, including characters’ vocal ranges.
Please perform a 1-2 minute monologue and a memorized selection from the Gilbert & Sullivan canon or an art song/aria in English. Auditioners must provide a copy of the music for the GSA accompanist. Singers are welcome to bring their own accompanist if desired. Please note that no unaccompanied (a cappella) or self-accompanied auditions will be heard.
